CASMET Guyana Branch Report 2001 - 2005

Branch report October 2016 to April 30th, 2017

Greetings & Introduction

We are joyful to be a member of the CASMET family. CASMET is indeed a glimpse of the quest for unity and cooperation among Medical Laboratory Professionals throughout the Caribbean region.

Let us, therefore, be proud of what has been achieved so far by persons that have diligently served on council and work daily to see greater improvement.

Medical Laboratory Professionals Week

We started the week with a Church Service at the Church of the Transfiguration. One of the most senior Medical Technologists in the Caribbean, Mr. Dickson . A. Hooper was honored by us at the Church. It was an absolutely stupendous occasion.

Group of professionals at Church Service

We then took the opportunity to use the airwaves via radio and television to share information with the public. There were many questions to be answered about the role of the Caribbean Association of Medical technologists. We were able to encourage others to join and influence the society positively.

Continuing Medical Education Sessions

Continuing Medical Education sessions were held through the country.  The main session was held at the Grand Coastal Hotel.

There were four (4) presentations done for the reporting period. There were as follows:

  1. Occupational Safety and Health in the Laboratory by Mr. Dale Beresford
  2. Role of the Guyana National Bureau of Standards in Certification and Accreditation of Laboratories by Ms. Tashi Browne
  3. Risk Management by Ms. Yvette Irving
  4. Qper Co-Diagnostics – Mr. Dwight Egan

The next presentation will be done on the 25th of June, 2017 at St Joseph Mercy Hospital.

Mrs. Joyce Whyte-Chin and team also moved throughout regions 2, 4, 5 and 6 conducting health fairs.

There were lectures given to Secondary School students and blood drives.

Other Matters of Interest

We are still working with the Ministry of Public Health to re-start the Allied Health Professionals Council. This matter is engaging the Honorable Minister of Public Health presently.
